Success StoriesFlying Start Computing has recently worked with Computer Associates (CA) to develop a mobile application for use by repair engineers. Written in Advantage Plex, generated in Java and running over CA's Ingres ii database on Windows 2000 laptop PCs, the application's functionality includes work schedule management, invoicing, stock control, parts ordering and call booking. As well as providing general Plex and Java expertise, Flying Start worked in particular on patterns and software to manage the exchange of XML-formatted data with host systems. This was supported by CA's Jasmine ii systems integration product and used a range of mobile communications solutions including radio modems. Flying Start Computing has also recently worked with Jordans Ltd (the UK's foremost company formations agent) to develop a package application for use by other company formation agents (such as lawyers or accountants) which takes advantage of the UK government's new ebusiness initiative in processing company formations electronically. The package interfaces both with another Jordans software package and with their back end systems. As well as providing general Plex expertise, Flying Start played an important role in the area of flexible database design and also in developing patterns to maintain database tables in system memory. Also for Jordans Ltd, Flying Start Computing has extended the capability of another software package, this time written in VB, to generate documents using Microsoft Word in addition to Crystal Reports. Flying Start Computing has previously helped Jordans Ltd to implement the first live Websydian application in the UK. The system, called Incorporator, enables Jordans' clients to carry out the on-line formation of limited companies. Subsequent projects for Jordans include JordanWatch, which allows Jordans' clients to enquire and report on information about 1.5 million UK companies, and an on-line store for their Publishing Division. For Nissan Technical Centre Europe, we helped create a system to send parts orders to suppliers by fax and email. Software house Intec For Business selected Flying Start Computing to provide Advantage Plex and Websydian training and mentoring.
